The Challenge

But City Gross is not alone. With hard competition in the Swedish playing field for food chains, City Gross faces various challenges. They aim to enhance the customer experience, drive sales, and maintain clear messaging across all their 42 stores and 500+ screens in Sweden. The in-store communication is, of course, one of the focus areas and the requirements are clear;

City Gross needs a dynamic signage solution to display campaigns, control content, select based on store assortment, and schedule groups of screens. In short; they sought a simple yet highly functional solution to help them target customers with great offers.

The Solution

A new digital signage solution was implemented in collaboration with Digital Business Partner (DBP), a supplier and reseller of Smartsign CMS. Through strategic placement of digital screens and seamless integration, City Gross started their new digital signage journey.

”We were introduced to Smartsign through our conversations with DBP, and it was clear that it is a user-friendly solution that could meet our complex needs and beyond”, says Jonas Gunnarsson, Media Strategist at City Gross.

Smartsign's digital signage solution provided City Gross with tools to run targeted campaigns effectively and deliver consistent messaging to the right screen at the right time. This technology has enabled the adaptation of their content to each store's specific needs, making it possible to enhance the customer experience.

Increased profitability in a short time

In Smartsign, it is easy to manage deviations with a filter function in the scheduling. The option to divide the screen area as needed and schedule different parts of the screen individually. Which is just what a supermarket needs.

”Since the stores look very different, it is important for us to have a system that can handle variations and deviations in a flexible way. In Smartsign, there is great support and functionality for that. Now it is easy to schedule campaigns centrally for all stores with all the variants of sets that we have. The high functionality and great user experience, combined with the simplicity of using it is important to us”, says Christin Lindau, Production Manager at City Gross who operates the system on a daily basis.

When it comes to the results, City Gross has seen a significant sales increase. Suppliers gain more visibility, and customers enjoy a better shopping experience.

”We received excellent feedback quickly and increased profitability in a short time. The screens not only drive sales of a single product but also promote the entire product range”, says Jonas Gunnarsson.

More effective and dynamic messaging

In conclusion, City Gross has successfully transformed its in-store communication with their optimized digital signage solution. The partnership with Smartsign and DBP has made it possible to enhance how they engage with customers and display campaigns, making their messaging more effective and dynamic.

”Digital signage has become a very important channel for us and our suppliers. We've been able to enhance our in-store communication and engage our customers like never before”, says Jonas Gunnarsson.
